With my help, you'll be rocking happy, healthy curls in no time
Here's a little back story: growing up, I never knew what to do with my hair. I would either straighten it, or it was a fluffy mess. It wasn't until I was 20 years old that I realized why: I had spent my whole life treating my hair like it was straight when it clearly wasn't. After taking a year off from doing hair to be a nanny for my aunt in Oregon, I went many days without brushing my hair or worrying about what it looked like. And because of that, I discovered curls. When I came back to the salon life, I dreaded straightening my own hair more and more. I made it my mission to learn what the heck to do with my curls and found that there is a whole community of people out there struggling with the same thing. So, from then on, I have been learning everything I can about all of the different types of curly hair and how to take care of them. As a curly hair specialist, I can help you learn what makes your hair unique and how to make it look like you just stepped out of the salon, with your own two hands.
My Experience
September 2010 - June 2014
October 2014 - March 2020
April 2021 - April 2023
April 2023 - Current
I was a student in the Chariho Cosmetology program. Here i learned all of the basic requirements to attain my cosmetology license, including knowledge of hair skin and nails, all of their structures, properties and conditions. I also competed in a national competition in hair cutting and styling. I got First place in Rhode Island and went on to compete against kids from alll over the country.
I started my career at a chain salon called Hair Cuttery. Here I took extra classes on hair cutting and coloring techniques and started to build my clientele. I also dabbled in researching curly hair after taking a year off and discovering my own curls. I took my first class on curly cutting from Evan Joseph, a well-known Deva Curl educator.
After the closing of Hair Cuttery due to the Covid Shut Down, my co-workers opened Salon 401, where a worked and continued various curly education classes and began offering curl specific haircuts. As my clientele grew and the direction of my career felt limited, I decided I needed a change.
I started working independently at Refuge Salon to have more freedom in every aspect. Here I continue to expand my education in curls and whatever else catches my fancy. In July 2024 I became officially certified in a technique of cutting curly hair called the Rezo cut. This is another tool in my toolbox that has allowed me to understand curls better.
